Cheap destination weddings are often chosen not because you have heard you can get a good bargain but mainly because the area has a certain charm or you just love going there. The main thing has to be that you want to get married there.

When you have chosen your wedding location, or in some cases it has chosen you, you will want to start planning. Popular venues and times get booked up a long time in advance.

The first thing to decide is your date, think about the time of year that you want to get married. If you were married out of season the hotel may be less expensive but you may find that flights are harder to find.

The best advice is to book your hotel and flights as a package, this way you won't end up spending loads on flights or hotels and avoid the worse case scenario where you have the flight and no hotel or visa versa! Before you book your tickets work out if it is cheaper to buy them as a group booking or individually, it doesn't always work that you save more money in a group booking.

You will quite likely save money and definately time and stress by booking through a reputable travel agent rather than trying to find the best deal yourself.

Make sure you know all of the residency and legal requirements to get married at your destination, you may need to be resident a week before you are married. You will want to make sure you are there in time!

If you are inviting family and friends to join you it is a good idea to send them Save The Date cards and details for flights and hotels as soon as you can. This way they can start looking for the best deals and you will also have lots of time to plan your wedding ceremony and reception.

Your wedding ceremony will need to be organized locally and to ease your stress and make sure you have a fantastic day it would be worth having a wedding planner just for this part. This way all of the legal stuff is taken care of. They will also have contacts for flowers and photographers that may offer you a discount.

Your wedding reception doesn't need to be a big party as you will all be there enjoying many days together. You may want to have a celebratory lunch or dinner with your guests and for this you can arrange with the hotel when you are making your initial booking. If you include it in your initial enquiry before you book your hotel you will be in a better position to negotiate a better deal.

Cheap destination weddings do take a lot of planning, it is not easy arranging everything from a distance but it can be done. The more organized you are, the less likely you will have to spend more than you need to.
