I would like to get married in a church in my home town, but would like to have my reception in Mexico. How do I handle a situation like this?

I am planning an August 2011 wedding. I would like to get married at the church I grew up in (a small ceromony) but would like to have a reception at a resort. I don't want to incur the cost of having a ceremony in Mexico. How can I make it like this is a wedding, not just a party? I am expecting about 40 guests.

Your wedding invitation could read

Jane and Michael would be delighted if you could join us for a celebration of our marriage at resort name, date and time.

This way you have a specific date for your reception, I am sure that some of your guests will want to travel to Mexico for longer than one day and this way they can make sure that they are in Mexico for your reception.
