Cheap Wedding Cake Idea

Do you have a friend or relative who can work with fondant icing, but it's not someone that you would want to burden with making a whole wedding cake very close to your wedding date? The best "cheap" wedding idea I've seen thus far was a bride whose mother-in-law created a dream cake out of fondant icing and styrofoam forms months ahead of the wedding. Then they ordered ordinary sheet cakes to serve to guests. So there was a very elaborate and beautiful cake on the cake table, and guests got to eat a delicious bakery cake, and it costs about 1/4 as much as a regular cake and didn't burden someone close to the bride and groom with a last minute frenzy of baking. Don't have a picture yet, as the wedding was last weekend, but the cake was gorgeous. The wedding theme was Alice in Wonderland, and the cake was an all white topsy turvy cake, as have been very popular recently.

Instead of making a big cake make a fake big cake. What you can do is put different size boxes on top of each other. Small as it goes up. Decorate these boxes like cake with the Fonda frosting. Serve people sheet cake instead of the fake box cake.

Here is a great cheap wedding cupcakes idea from Mandy, cupcakes look fantastic and if you are not good at baking then you can always buy the cakes to ice with your friends.

"Have your girlfriends over a couple days before the wedding. Make cheap cup cakes and get them to help you ice them with white and another colour of your choice and put a simple spotty pattern or stripes or a flower in the centre... whatever you choose. Easy to do and 50 (or how many you need/want) of these on a tiered stand looks amazing!!! Plus you'll have fun!!"

Free Wedding Cake Topper Idea

I used the bride and groom cake topper from my grandparents' wedding cake at my wedding. Free, and very sentimental for us and for them.

I hope we are married as long and as happily. And we had a good start - 15 years and we had a very cheap wedding - homemade cake, ginger ale & cranberry juice punch, thrifted dress, rehearsal dinner catered by the local high school home ec class. And our wedding was lovely. The most expensive part was the venue - $200 for a historical church in a small town.

Cup Cake Table instead of a cake

ex.. hers was much better, but this gives you an idea

My ex girlfriend just got married... I know I know, weird that I attended, but i really loved her and we are still good friends.

Instead of a traditional cake, she had a cupcake table that was a huge hit. Not only did it cost like $100 total, but it allowed people to take home the extras. No dealing with a wedding cake in the fridge forever.

They we all kinds of cupcake flavors, with cream cream frosting on the top with sprinkles that matched the wedding colors.

The stand was built by her brother and decor and flowers were added to it to make it absolutely amazing.

I am getting married in a month and am planning on the same thing.

Cheap Cupcake Wedding Cake

I had the bakery make a cupcake wedding cake for me. I thought it was much more interesting looking then a traditional wedding cake, and the bonus was that it was ALOT cheaper. I had the top layer of the cake made, so that my husband and I could actually do the cake cutting tradition. After we cut the cake, each guest recieved their own cupcake, and I got many many compliments on the idea :)
