Wedding Reception Timeline - Your Wedding Reception Checklist

Your wedding reception timeline to print and alter to help you with your wedding planning. This timeline is not set in stone, every wedding is different and so will the way that you do things. The great thing about having a timeline or order of doing things is that everyone will know when they are ment to be doing something and where.

If you are having a very traditional wedding then your timeline will look something like this:

  • After the ceremony have one of your ushers or groomsmen go on ahead to welcome your guests to the wedding reception.
  • Guests are welcomed with a welcome drink and canapes.

  • Guests mingle.

  • More photographs at the wedding venue.

  • Formal receiving line. This normally involves the whole wedding party or top table in a line welcoming each guest. It is a good idea to mix up the bride's and groom's family in the receiving line so each member can be introduced to each guest, or have a toastmaster announce each guest.

  • All of your guests take their seats.

  • All of the top table take their seats apart from the bride and groom.

  • Toastmaster announces the bride and groom. "Please be upstanding for Mr and Mrs Smith".

  • Father of the bride welcomes the guests.

  • Wedding breakfast is served. Top table and then the rest of the tables.

  • Toast is poured.

  • Wedding Speeches
  • Cutting of the cake.
  • First dance.

  • Then the partying begins!

wedding reception timeline, by jmayer1129 Don't forget to fit in the garter toss or bouquet toss before the end of the night if you have one planned.

Every wedding is different, you may want to cut your cake before your meal so it can be served as the dessert. You don't have to have a line up or canapes. You may want to have all of the speeches at the beginning of the wedding reception - this helps if you have a nervous bestman! Some have speeches after each course, it is really up to you and how you would like to have your day.

By having your wedding reception timeline it makes sure you have time to fit everything you want into your day, because trust me this will be one of the quickest days of your life as you will be having so much fun!
